Focusing on the Pillar of Worship

I so enjoyed brother Freddy Gardner’s message last Sunday from Isaiah 6:1-8 on worship. It was our third message in the Georgia Baptist Mission Board’s Right Start series, that has blessed me as our congregation navigates these initial first few weeks without a lead pastor. Brother Marty Youngblood did a great job the first Sunday in the series highlighting the Mandate, Mission and Methods every church should focus on. For the second Right Start series message Marty reminded us of the importance of Prayer using Acts 4.

Last Sunday’s message about Worship came at a perfect time for me, as I had just spent three days the week before down in Jacksonville, Florida at the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference. Hundreds of worship leaders from around our country gathered to study God’s Word, sing His praises, and attend numerous workshops and seminars to hone our skills as worship leaders. Thank you dear church family for allowing me to attend that uplifting incredible conference.

Worship is how God’s people realize who God is, remember God’s promises for all who believe, and are empowered to actually live differently because of their relationship with God. Worship nurtures that relationship. Worship requires active involvement, not just casual observation. Worship is the outward expression of our inward commitment to follow Christ as our Savior. It is my joy to minister to you all through music, to choose songs that deepen your faith, and hopefully challenge you to daily be more like Christ. May we always be a congregation that comes each week not to simply observe, but to eagerly come anticipating an encounter with the living God.

Remaining strong in Him, Phillip
