Sufficient Sacrifice

Hebrews 7:27 - "He doesn’t need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do—first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all time when he offered himself.” (CSB)

Jesus did not need to make daily sacrifices for Himself. The Levitical priests would offer sacrifices for themselves first, then for the people. Why? Because they had sin that an offering had to be made for.

Since Christ was and is without sin, He did not nor does He need to offer any sacrifice for Himself.

All that was needed for Him to sacrifice was for sinful people. A single sacrifice, sufficient for all time.

Hebrews 10:10 - “By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time.”

As a side note… For the audience Hebrews was written to, it would be jarring to hear that this Great High Priest the author of Hebrews has been speaking about offered Himself as the sacrifice.

No high priest offered himself. It wouldn’t be a sufficient sacrifice because he would not be without sin.

Mark 10:45 - “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus gave Himself as a ransom for many.

The good news? Every single person who has come to Jesus for salvation has found salvation.

There is no end to the sufficiency of His sacrifice. That’s great news!
