Wisdom Comes From God’s Word
I have always been a long-range planner. I send the songs and demos by email out for all our worship service songs about a month in advance to our choir and band members. I always have the Christmas musical books in the hands of our choir members by the first of each September. I remember my mentor from 40 years ago, Rev. Roger Waters, saying “If you fail to plan, Phillip, plan to fail.” You have probably heard the expression, “He (or she) doesn’t let the grass grow under their feet,” meaning they’re always on the move or they make decisions quickly and move on. Much of the time, that can be a really good quality to have, but in some cases, it can also be a challenge.
Proverbs 21:5 (ESV) says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” When you make plans, it is vital to ask for wisdom from God, be diligent, and not operate too hastily. True wisdom comes from God and His Word. Psalm 119, which Pastor John has encouraged us all to study recently, is such a helpful passage for gaining understanding and wisdom from His Word. Verse 11 says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you”. Verse 18, “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” Verse 105, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
When we take the time for a conversation with God about our plans, and receive His counsel, only then can our plans be established in Him. In addition to planning ahead, let’s pray often, and ask our Lord Jesus to give us wisdom over every decision. God bless you all.
Your servant in Christ, Phillip
