Love=Time Investment
Our dear Pastor Brandon is taking us wonderfully through the book of Ephesians in our Sunday morning services, and this week our passage is Ephesians 5:22-33, about husbands and wives. I am not an economist, but I do understand the basics of investing. Before God called me into full-time Worship Ministry I spent seven years, after my years in the US Army and finishing my B.A. at Shorter University, working my way up from Assistant Manager, to Manager, to District Manager in the small loan finance business.
If our offices made wise loans and treated our customers well our offices prospered. If we made poor loan choices and lost touch with our customers, we suffered. All our relationships are based on investment, especially marriage. On August 15th Carole and I will celebrate our 38th Wedding Anniversary. Throughout our years together we have made it a priority to invest in each other. Just as we did while we dated and were engaged, we carve out time every week to go on a date. It may be going out to dinner, going to lunch and a movie, visiting a botanical garden, or the like.
We spend plenty of time just talking, sharing prayers, goals, and dreams with each other. Every five years we plan a nice romantic anniversary trip to places like Italy, Tahiti, or Ireland. Just like our relationship with Christ depends on time spent with Him, and in His Word, our marriages depend on us devoting time spent with our spouses. We must invest in our relationships for them to work.
Four times in the Ephesians 5:22-33 passage Christ says, “Husbands, love your wives.” Are we daily showing our love to our spouses? Husbands, when was the last time you surprised your wife with flowers? Wives, do you kiss your husband goodnight every night without fail? Invest in your marriage every day, with little things and big things, they will pay dividends.
Your servant, Pastor Phillip
